Inscrutable Love

Chapter 1
The world uses you when it needs you and the world throws you when it’s done with you. This was
what Ananta Jha, the 24 year old MBA student of Management Institute of Patan was thinking while
he walked towards his college. The first trimester exams had recently ended and the new session
had begun. As he reached towards the main entrance he saw the parking lot full of motorbikes;
quite a few of them his friends’.
“How dare they not call me?” he thought adjusting his thick black spectacles. As he walked the flight
of stairs he glanced upon the stream of Class photos hung on the wall like he usually did for no
particular reason.
Before entering his class, there was a loud voice from behind “Yo AJ, what’s up yo?” it was Sakti
Pradhan aka ‘The Dude’. Sakti walked towards Ananta in a brief pace with a grin on his face and
offered a customary handshake.
Ananta extended his hands in acceptance of the strange custom. Instead of the usual handshake,
Sakti pulled him to another classroom.
“Let me show you our new classroom” he said
“What new classroom?” Ananta responded
“It seems our classroom has been shifted bro.”
“Oh freak! I hate changes.”
“Don’t worry. It’s kind of cool.”
The classroom was on the far left corner of the building facing north. The room was filled with
unusual collages with the theme “What great managers’ do?”. The room was empty except for
several backpacks kept in random benches. Ananta kept his Swiss Gear backpack in the last bench
and approached the collages one by one. He appreciated the hard work of the previous batch. This
gave him a sense of achieving something similar, probably even more.

“AJ come on, let’s go to the canteen” Sakti said “other guys are waiting for us”.
Ananta silently followed irritated by his friend’s lack of patience.
The Canteen was on the roof of the college, the fourth floor. Ananta felt a sense of satisfaction after
climbing all the flight of stairs as if he had achieved something great. In fact he was relieved he did
not have to climb anymore.
The canteen was in one corner of the roof which seated about 30 students. The view from here was
always breath taking especially during sunny morning. The clear view the Shivapuri hill, the Nagarjuna hill, the kirtipur hill, the BICC building, and the recently constructed Sanchay Kosh building
always made Ananta smile.
They reached the canteen, almost half the tables were filled even in the early morning. Students
were enjoying the Samosas, Pakodas, Rotis and the teas and coffees. Ananta and Sakti joined their
other friends and exchanged the strange custom and pleasantries.
“Dude, what did you do these holidays?” asked one of his friends
“I went to .....”
An aircraft passed by and Ananta drifted into his own thoughts:
“My best friend Bidushi, oh how much I loved her. I had known her for 15 years and she was not
rude to anyone not once. Oh her pretty face, and that cute smile with dimples. I could simply look
into her eyes just to fall in love all over again. I wonder how we drifted apart. Oh right, now I
remember, it was because....”
“What the hell AJ?” Sakti said “Stop day dreaming. It’s time for the classes”
Ananta did not say anything. He quietly went to the class being nostalgic.
Chapter 2
Priya  looked excited; seeing her friends after a long time, especially him, oh she had missed him so
dearly. She  felt butterflies in her stomach just thinking about him right now.  She thought to herself
“Oh what would I do if I meet him now.” She considered her various alternatives
May  be I would show him my hand...  no  no  no...  ummm...  it would be too direct.  Or  maybe  I  would
scold  him  for  not  calling  me  in  the  holidays...  maybe  that’s  too  rude...or  I  could  just  hug  him  for
missing him so much and tell him how much  I  missed him.. Oh my god I’m thinking too much... I’ll
just...”
“Hey you have eyes or tomatoes? Get your eyes out of your pocket and walk properly.”
She turned back. Oh it was Ananta. Priya had a mixture of emotions. She had thought so much about
him and he was so bitter to her. Tears filled her eyes. She did not bother to reply. She just walked
towards her class filled with anger and bitterness.
She closed the door behind her.  Bang. The door closed louder than she had expected. The bang was
from the door hitting Ananta's head.
“Thank god this helmet saved me; otherwise you would have been mourning on my death."  Ananta
said. This satire pinched her heart and she felt miserable. She ignores him and gets seated in her chair. All
the hopes of showing the freshly applied mehendi to Ananta with such enthusiasm  get  shattered.
She had even written Ananta's name in some disguise.  Two  drops  of  tears  falls  unexpectedly  from
her eyes. She hurriedly wipes her tears hoping no one  would notice her but unknown to her Ananta
was watching her, feeling sorry for his own behavior.
